We were so happy when we found out we were going to have a baby. It was a
shock but a happy moment. I was considered high risk due to the trouble I
had with the two previous girls I had. They wanted to come early. So being
high risk meant lots of doctor visits and ultra sounds.
We went in Oct. 16th for what
was supposed to be a routine ultrasound. The nurse came in and asked if we
wanted to know what we were having. At this point we were a little over 5
months. We said yes we wanted a boy. She then said " It's a Girl" My
boyfriend was so proud. She then said she needed to get the doctor. He came
in and never said a word. We knew at that point there was something wrong.
They first said she had Turner Syndrome. We didn't even know what that was.
We asked and they dropped the bomb. She had only a 20% survival rate. I
think we were in such a state of shock that I didn't even shed a tear till
we reached home. That night a call came in from my doctor who said there
would be no special treatment no extra visits and they would write on my
chart that I would give birth to a still born baby.
I couldn't give up hope not
when she was moving and kicking. Everything was going ok for a while then on
Oct. 30 I began to get really sick. I was told by the doctors office that
there was no need to be checked out that it was food poisoning. The next day
was worse I felt very little movement. I called my boyfriend and we agreed
that if I didn't fell better in a couple of days we would go to the
hospital. Nov. 3rd came still not better so we went in they said after the
ultra sound she was gone and they would start labor as soon as possible. The
worst labor I have experienced.
After it was over they left us
with her for a while to say good bye she looked so perfect and I didn't
understand how they could say something was wrong. She weighed only 2 ounces
and was 6 1/4 inches long but every part of her looked perfect. 10 fingers
10 toes (my toes). A beautiful little baby and she was gone.
The doctor then came back and
asked us if she could run tests on her just to find out exactly what went
wrong. We agreed. The test came back as Patau Syndrome once again something
we had never heard of. Now we struggle every day to make it with out her.
Two days after getting home my milk came in, at that point I have went into
a state of depression my body says I should have a baby but I don't, and
why?
