"Juan Pablito is our angel

It's been almost eight months since our little prince passed away, on
September 10th.
We came back to Paraguay a week after that. It was a hard trip since we went
to Boston plenty of illusions to receive our baby.
The Lord’s ways are mysterious. We went to Boston prepared to fight against
a heart condition, we contacted the best physicians, and possibly the best
hospital in the world to deal with those kind of problems; we knew exactly
what kind of surgery he was going to have, we knew it would be difficult, we
knew it would be hard, we knew…
But after the birth we discovered the real history: trisomy 13. We didn’t
know anything about it: Trisomy 13, what was that? We were not prepared at
all for that. It was the hardest moment in our entirely life. We cried and
we almost fell down at all. But our baby gave us the strength to stand and
to be next to him.
We understood the beauty of our baby's life. We took care of him; we loved
him in every minute God allowed us.
But coming back home was so hard. Those months were plenty of memories and
questions, plenty of our baby absence, plenty of our baby presence. He is in
everything we do, in every thought, in every word.
We learned to love our little prince as he is: an angel, a son who visited
us for 16 days. We love him as he was, as he is, a baby with trisomy 13, so,
we love his trisomy 13 too.
Sometimes when Gilda, my wife, is a little sad I used to say her: “We can
not be sad, nobody is sad when receive a gift.” And we certainly received a
gift, the most beautiful gift God could give us: our baby Juan Pablo, our
baby with trisomy 13.
Thanks a lot for your support.

Juan Pablo passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2008.
He had a respiratory crisis... it was to much for him. I would like to say
thank you for your prayers and advises. Juan Pablito is our angel now. We
are very thankful to God for this little gift He gave us.
We are with the arrangements to flight back to Paraguay. I have to confirm
with the funeral home yet, but probably our baby will leave tomorrow.

My wife Gilda and I came to Boston from Paraguay before the delivery because
our unborn baby had been diagnosed with a heart problem. Our baby Juan Pablo
was born by cesarean last August 26th, within the week 34 of the pregnancy.
He had some problems breathing so, they put him to the ventilator. Also,
they discovered he had an extra finger in each hand and low positioned ears.
Because of that they suspected about a chromosomal problem. Few day after
they came to us with the FISH result, saying that apparently he had trisomy 13.
We were devastated; we knew he had a heart problem, but this seemed to be
too much. The physicians told us that babies with this problems usually
don't live more than a few weeks or months, and probably the best treatment
was just to do nothing.
In the meantime we started to read about this trisomy and we found this interesting site. It gave us hope. We said "maybe
Juan Pablo will be able to do it". The FISH results were confirmed a couple
of days after in meeting with the cardiologist and genetics doctors.
As in
the previous meeting, they explained us that our baby has not chances at
all, that the best approach is just to do nothing about the heart problem.
We told them that we would like to give him a chance, we would like to bring
him home to Paraguay, spend with him all the time God allow him to be here.
We decided to go step by step. "He is the boss" we said. We still are in the
hospital and Juan Pablo is doing some progress. We don't know yet what God's
plan for Juan Pablo is. We just know he is a miracle and every day we have is a
gift.
