Hannover, Germany - Full Trisomy 13

Hello,   My name is Barbara Franzo, I am italian and together with my husband Anthony and son Joshua, we live in Germany.  I am currently 30 weeks pregnant with our second son Jonathan who has been diagnosed through an amnio with a full trisomy 13 at 22 weeks.

During my 22nd week we went for a routine level 2 ultrasound together with my husband we couldn't wait to know whether we were expecting a boy or a girl, unfortunately that day we received the sad news that our baby was probably affected by  trisomy 18; we were then advised to perform an amnio. This was an exam I never wanted to perform as I didn't believe in abortion no matter the condition of my child, but now we needed to know what was happening to our baby. 3 days later the amnio result showed a full trisomy 13. us We were absolutely shocked, and even though we are both christians we went through some really rough days struggling with  the horrible thought of terminating the pregnancy.

One particular morning I prayed, please God give me the courage not to abort. The more we thought and thought rationally and especially through God's eyes it became clear to us that we had no choice but to do God's will, terminating would have been equal to killing our son and this was something we could never do knowing that one day we will face God's judgment, also despite his condition he was entitled to our love and nurturing.

After our decision was made we experienced spiritual peace and tranquility in our hearts and we enjoy experiencing our son's movements.

Jonathan is very active and weighs about 1 Kg., I am doing well overall, and we are taking one day at the time, keeping our minds focused on God`s will for Jonathan.

We know that our next big challenge will be when our baby will be born and we pray for strength and wisdom.

Sincerely,
Barbara Franzo
