"Cash has
surprised everyone since the day he was born and continues
to amaze and surprise us every day."

My name is Jade Adams. On December 20, 2008 I gave birth to a boy named
Cash Avery Adams. He was born in Poplar Bluff, MO at Poplar Bluff
Regional Medical Center. He was 18.5 inches and 5lbs 8.5 oz. From
there he was driven by ambulance to St. Louis Children's where he
was diagnosed with Full Trisomy 13.
I had no idea he had the
syndrome until 3 days after he was born. I had a completely normal
pregnancy and delivery. He is now almost 4 months old, and doing
exceptionally well considering the odds.
He does not have any severe
brain or heart abnormalities nor does he have apnea. I have had a
really hard time getting him to gain weight. We are just now at 8
lbs 1 oz. and we are still doing ng tube feedings. He does take some
by bottle and we've started feeding him a little bit of rice every
now and then and he seems to like it much more than formula because
he takes that completely by mouth. He started having seizures when
he turned 3 months old, but thankfully we have been able to
completely control those with medication. He just recently had a
bout with influenza pneumonia, but was out of the hospital within a
week, however he is still on .5L of oxygen. We are trying to get a
different dial that will allow us to eventually wean him off of the
oxygen and get him breathing on room air again.
He has surprised
everyone since the day he was born and continues to amaze and
surprise us every day. His daddy, Michael, and I have been extremely
blessed to have been so fortunate that he has not had any severe
medical conditions.
We are just taking it one day at a time and
enjoying every day that God blesses us with.
